A health and safety compliance assessment reviews your performance against all legal requirements.

Stonewells’ compliance consultants undertake assessments to identify site, task or organisation-specific risks in order to ensure legal compliance and best practice. Our assessments include an examination of health and safety management policies, procedures, arrangements and working practices. We also examine management documentation of all items which require statutory monitoring. Our assessment also includes a physical inspection of all areas under the client’s jurisdiction, and, where appropriate, discussions with relevant persons, for example Building or Site Managers, regarding all health and safety related issues.

Following our inspection and assessment a full report, complete with supporting photographic evidence of all areas of non-compliance and recommendations for any further action is produced, quality checked and then issued to our client.

Employers have a legal responsibility to provide appropriate training and information to their staff. Our range of courses deliver exactly that and provide your business with legal compliance.

SSIP (Safety Schemes in Procurement) was founded in May 2009 following the Government report on Accelerating the SME economic engine: through transparent, simple and strategic procurement. Supported by the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) SSIP aims to streamline prequalification and encourage straightforward mutual recognition between its Member Schemes.

All assessments completed by our Member Schemes are completed utilising the SSIP Core Criteria which is aligned to the Government-backed construction pre-qualification document PAS 91, ensuring consistency within supply chain management.

The revised Construction (Design & Management) Regulations, which came into force in April 2007, introduced the Stage 1 Core Criteria for assessing health and safety competence of contractors and consultants working in the construction industry. The introduction of these competence criteria provided an opportunity for existing health and safety prequalification schemes to build on and formalise mutual recognition already in operation amongst some schemes.

In April 2007, an initial meeting was held at the HSE’s Headquarters, which included representatives from the Contractors’ Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS), Constructionline, Exor and the National House-Building Council (NHBC) to discuss the potential for the SSIP Forum.

Following further regular meetings over the next two years, SSIP Forum founder members agreed and signed up to an ethos that it should act as an umbrella organisation to facilitate mutual recognition between health and safety assessment schemes wherever it is practicable to do so.

Below is a list of common reasons why organisations seek to become SSIP Member Scheme Accredited:

  • Accreditation helps you win work which might not have been previously possible;
  • Accreditation improves your professional image by being able to demonstrate to clients that you are health and safety conscious;
  • Accreditation affiliates you with SSIP and;
  • Accreditation pre-approves you to work with over 2,500 clients

With our range of Member Scheme Accreditation services we provide a comprehensive service to meet all your health and safety requirements which in turn helps you secure and win new business and contracts as a fully Registered or Accredited Member of an SSIP Scheme.

By working with you to ensure you have the necessary systems, procedures and documents in place we reduce the burden on you. We offer a full application management process for CHAS, ConstructionLine and SafeContractor member schemes whereby we complete your application forms, review your existing documentation and provide you with any additional documentation you may need to help you manage health and safety and demonstrate competence to your SSIP member scheme assessor.
